Compost Ready Food Packaging

For customers who are ready to take that leap into compostable food packaging, it is important to do research before you place that order. By now you have probably already determined your new fiber based packaging is going to be more expensive, and might be shopping for your best choice…which you should be doing! However, like most things in this world, you get what you pay for, and fiber based food packaging is no different. Here are a list of things that you should be looking for when shopping for fiber based food packaging.

  1. Be sure the features you are used to in your traditional packaging are still there with the fiber option. Features such as stacking rims and closure types are important for hinged containers while lid fit is important for dinnerware items.
  2. Test to make sure your food products will in fact perform well with fiber based food packaging. Ask your potential supplier for their Cobb Test results which is a test of liquid absorption rates. If they do not have them, they probably do not want them listed. Fiber tends to absorb liquids which results in a soggy container. The lower the Cobb test results, the better your container will work.

As you may have guessed, here at Genpak we offer the absolute, top of the line products when it comes to fiber based food packaging with our Harvest Fiber product offering. We also like to back up our claims visually whenever possible.
