PHA from Start to Finish

A Life Cycle That's Only Natural.

Life Cycle of a PHA Food Service Item

Canola seed icon

GenZero's circular approach starts with Canola seeds that are harvested then cold press crushed for their oil. Byproducts are used for fertilizer or livestock feed.

oil to fermentation process icon

Oil is fed to soil bacteria in a controlled fermentation process and PHA is extracted using a solvent free separation process. It’s then pelletized for conversion into finished food service products.

pellets to finished food service articles icon

Pellets are extruded and thermoformed into finished food service articles like hinged containers, plates and bowls.

PHA items icon

Items are used at restaurants, schools, commissaries or at home.

Once done, food service products may be discarded in industrial compost facilities where they will biodegrade leaving no toxic residue.

PHA Production Cycle

PHA Production Cycle svg-test Canola seeds are harvested. Seeds are crushed in a cold press, yielding high quality oil. Byproducts from cold press are used for fertilizer and livestock feed. Soil bacteriamakes PHA in acontrolled fermentationenvironment. FERMENTATION PROCESS 100% biodegradable PHA results from separation, solvent-free purification and drying.

End of Life Cycle

Composting Biodegradable plasticis introduced to an industrial or at-home compost pile. Heat and moisturefrom the compost pile begin to break the chains of the polymer. This allows microbesto further break down the material. cup_1 cup-2 moisture heat
